What types of circumstances lead to a truck accident?

When you drive in close proximity to commercial trucks, you hope that every driver is well trained and able to make the right decisions while behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, there are times when this isn't the case. Instead, a driver makes a mistake that causes an accident.

Here are some of the many circumstances that can lead to a truck accident:

-- Distracted driving. When a trucker takes his or her attention away from the road, it could lead to an immediate crash.

-- Reckless driving. There are many forms or reckless driving, including speeding and changing lanes without signaling.

-- Unrealistic schedules. When a trucking company places an unrealistic schedule on a driver, he or she may spend too many hours on the road and/or drive faster than the speed limit.

-- Drowsy driving. A major problem among truck drivers, it's a must to get enough rest during long shifts on the road. Neglecting to do so can have serious consequences.

As the driver of a passenger vehicle, you have no choice but to share the road with large trucks on a regular basis. Although you have control over the decisions you make, you never know what a truck driver will do.

If you are involved in a truck accident, move your car to safety and call for help. At that point, it doesn't matter what led to the crash. All that matters is that you receive immediate medical attention.

Once you are stabilized, you can then learn more about the accident and your legal rights for seeking compensation.
