Best ways to personally prevent texting and driving

In today's day and age, many people find it next to impossible to stay off their phone for an extended period of time. This even holds true when they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Unfortunately, when you text and drive, you increase the chances of causing an accident. Remember, you only have to be distracted for a split second to cause a crash.

Some of the best ways to personally prevent texting and driving include:

  • Turn your cellphone off and leave it in your trunk
  • Turn your cellphone to silent, and make a vow to yourself that you won't check for messages
  • Download an app that is meant to prevent texting while driving

It's important that you determine which one of these strategies will work best for you, as it can go a long way in keeping you and others safe while on the road.

Despite the fact that you have full control over what happens in your vehicle, you know that you have no say over the actions of other drivers. So, even if you follow these tips, another driver could become distracted, thus leading to a serious accident.

If your vehicle is struck by someone who was texting and driving, move to safety and call 911. This is the best way to ensure that the police and an ambulance arrive as quickly as possible.

Once you receive treatment, you can learn more about the cause of the accident. If the person was texting and driving, it may put you in better position to receive compensation for your injuries and other damages.
