Don’t ever say these things to your insurance company

There is nothing worse than being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Not only can this lead to serious injury, but it can result in property damage as well.

Unfortunately, many people soon find that their insurance company is not exactly on their side. Instead, they're trying to do whatever it takes to make the situation go away as quickly (and as cheaply) as possible.

Here are some of the many things you should never say to your insurance company after a car crash:

  • I think I have whiplash. Even though this may be true, you don't need to bring this to light just yet. It's a sure red flag with your insurance company.
  • There is nothing wrong with me. Don't make this claim until you receive a full medical exam. Remember this: Soft tissue injuries don't always present symptoms right away.
  • I am sorry. You don't have anything to apologize for. Even if you think you were responsible for the crash, you don't have to say you're sorry. You pay for insurance coverage and your company should live up to their end of the contract.
  • You can record me if you want. You don't have to comply to this request by your insurer. If you don't want to be recorded, tell the other party that you aren't comfortable.

These are the types of things you should never say to your insurance company. When you avoid these statements, while sticking with the facts, you put yourself in better position to file a claim in a timely manner and receive the compensation you deserve.
