What are the primary signs of drowsy driving?

No matter who you are, there's a good chance you've found yourself tired when behind the wheel. At that point, you had two choices: Push forward or get off the road so you can rest.

While most people understand the dangers of drowsy driving, some don't. For example, this is a way of life for many truck drivers. Since they spend a lot of hours on the road, they come to grips with the fact that they may not always feel their best.

It can be difficult to pinpoint if a trucker is drowsy, but here are some of the telltale signs:

  • The truck is drifting from one lane to the next, not staying in a straight line
  • The truck is driving too closely to the vehicle in front of it (which could be yours)
  • The trucker is unable to keep his or her head up for an extended period of time
  • The trucker is yawning and/or rubbing his or her eyes

If you're dealing with any of these issues in your vehicle, it's easy to take action. However, you know that it's not always as easy to tell if another driver is drowsy.

A car-truck accident can result in serious injury and extensive damage. This is why you never want to find yourself involved in this type of crash.

If you are, it's important to immediately call 911 so that help arrives at the scene as quickly as possible. Once you receive medical treatment, you can learn more about what happened, how to file an insurance claim and other legal actions you can take.
